Gustave Caillebotte is a French Impressionist painter, collector, and patron, whose work is distinguished by its bold urban realism and innovative perspectives. He captures Haussmannian Parisian modernity with striking photographic framings - rainy streets, metal bridges, floors in vertiginous perspective - while also painting nautical scenes and gardens with an Impressionist touch. Long overshadowed by his friends Monet, Renoir, and Degas whom he supported financially, he is today recognized as an original master of modern Parisian painting.
