Canaletto

Canaletto, whose real name is Giovanni Antonio Canal, is an Italian painter and engraver, born on October 18, 1697 in Venice and died on April 19, 1768 in the same city. He is famous for his urban landscape paintings (vedute) of Venice, Rome, and London, as well as for his imaginary views (capricci). His style is characterized by a precise use of perspective, which gives his works a great realism and a theatrical quality.
