He is a significant figure of the Heidelberg School, the Australian impressionist painting school that emerged in the late 19th century. His works, such as "Golden Summer, Eaglemont" and "Still glides the stream, and shall for ever glide", capture Australian landscapes with great sensitivity to light and color.
